刺し子の小さな標本

この模様は、中心へ強く集まっていくというより、

張りながら、わずかにゆるみ、
均衡しながら、少しずつ呼吸しているような感覚で刺しています。

真正面から見ると、
円の枠がわずかに歪んで見える。
けれど、少し角度を変えると、
麻の葉が静かに整列しはじめる。

視点によって、
揃っているようにも、
ほどけているようにも見える、
不思議な麻の葉のアレンジ図案です。

同じ形を繰り返しているのに、
完全には揃いきらない。

その小さな揺らぎの中に、
布と糸、そして手の動きが残っている気がします。

刺し子をしていると、
整えようとしていないのに、
気づけば静かに揃っていることがある。

針目の間隔、糸の重なり、繰り返しのリズム。

その積み重ねが、見る人の感覚にも、
静かに作用していく。

これは、「完成された正解」というより、
模様と張力を観察するための
小さな標本のような作品です。

Breathing Asanoha

A sashiko embroidery hoop piece,
stitched quietly,
one stitch at a time.

Rather than the sharp tension
of a traditional Asanoha pattern
pulling toward the center,

this piece was created with a sense of
boundaries softly loosening,
as if the pattern itself is breathing.

When viewed directly from the front,
the circular frame appears slightly distorted.

But from another angle,
the Asanoha pattern begins to align itself quietly.

Depending on the viewpoint,
it appears both ordered and gently unraveling —
a curious variation of the traditional Asanoha motif.

Although the same shapes repeat,
they never become perfectly uniform.

Within those subtle fluctuations,
the movement of the hand,
the tension of the thread,
and the softness of the cloth remain.

When I stitch sashiko,
I am not trying to “fix” or “arrange” myself.

And yet,
before I realize it,
something quietly falls into place.

The rhythm of the stitches,
the intervals of space,
the repetition itself.

Little by little,
they seem to release the noise inside.

This piece is not meant to be
a “perfect answer,”

but rather
a small specimen for observing
pattern, tension, and balance.

One collector once shared these words with me:
